Cosmetic Surgeons Oklahoma - Credentials

The popularity of cosmetic surgery in Oklahoma is soaring – and more and more doctors are trying to meet the demand.  Many licensed physicians can claim to be plastic or cosmetic surgeons, so the importance of making sure your doctor is properly trained and certified is paramount.

“With ever-increasing numbers of providers offering plastic and cosmetic surgery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, it can be easy for the public to be confused about a doctor’s qualifications, and the impact it can have on their safety,” said Tim R. Love, M.D., an ASPS Member Surgeon.

Dr. Love, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the foremost authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery and the specialty’s leader in patient safety initiatives. Dr. Love offers many cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures, including rhinoplastybreast augmentation, and BOTOX Cosmetic.

To help consumers have the safest cosmetic treatment possible, Dr. Love has complied a checklist to guide patients through the process of planning for cosmetic surgery:

Evaluate Yourself:  Define your surgery expectations.

Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery: Verify that your surgeon has credentialed privileges at local hospitals to perform your procedure.   This will help ensure the patient that the surgeon has met the standards of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma hospitals.

Ensure that Medical Facilities are Credentialed:  Facilities providing your surgery should be credentialed by a national or Oklahoma-recognized accrediting agency such as the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), or Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Be Informed:  Do your homework when considering cosmetic surgery.    Surgeons should explain the risks, benefits, alternatives and reasoning for the proposed treatment, after which an informed consent document should be signed by the patient.

For patients actively considering plastic or cosmetic surgery, Oklahoma City’s Dr. Tim Love recommends downloading the informational brochure, How to Choose a Plastic Surgeon, or at the ASPS website.
